Irregular Period Cycle. What does it mean?

I got my first period probably 3 years ago, for the first 3-4 months it was normal, and then it just didnt get it for around 7 months. I wasnt too worried, because it isnt too unusual for that to happen, but then it came 2 months in a row and it was absent for another 5-6 months. Since then the same thing has been happening with a couple of months intervals inbetween. The last time i got my period was on the 25th of March. What could be wrong with me? I want to go to the doctor, but i dont want to have to end up going to a gynecologist :S What do you think?? Any help would be grateful :) x Oh btw, im 16 and a virgin
